My Dad: Nick aka Ja-suit aka Ja-long

Today I celebrate my Dad, one Nick Arodi Ochola, the only person I know whose National ID card has initials. One of the very few Kenyans to sire ten sons and seven daughters and raise them with very strict discipline. Some call him Ja-suit, some call him Ja-long and he remains the most powerful influence in my life. I share some of his quotes:

As you date or stay in a marriage, one day a woman will make you so angry you will wish all of them be collected and taken to the moon out of reach of men and keep us from trouble. Only then you realize, the earth cannot be in harmony without women who are the moderators. Men would blow each other to oblivion if women packed and left the planet...




Your starting point in life does not in any way foretell your finishing point. You may begin on negative and end at super positive the same way you may have a great beginning and a terrible ending....

Many times you may feel ashamed to say that you are 17 siblings because you believe you are too many. The interesting bit is that it is the youngest members of the family who believe so only after being born. First borns never see their family as too large but the youngest ones do and its mystery how they expected to exist if those before them were not born....

A lady should not get married to a man simply because he made her pregnant. Any man (most) can make a woman pregnant but not all of them can make a husband to that pregnant lady or a father to the unborn child..

Beating up a child as they grow up will never make them better in future; it is the responsibility of the adult as the party who sired the child to consistently keep moulding the child to fit into the society. To tell a child what is bad and what is good and the consequences of each is the absolute duty of the parent and that does not need the use of a cane....
